Our Story
The duo behind Pieced Together Couture is an immigrant from Hong Kong and a skilled craftsman from Mexico, united by their shared passion for fashion, their commitment to ethical practices, and their remarkable journey in the industry.
Judy, an Hong Kong immigrant, inspired by paper dolls as a child, developed a deep love for fashion design. From playing at a sewing factory where her grandmother worked, to pursuing a fashion design degree at UC Davis, her path was paved with creativity and dedication.
Luis, the youngest of nine children, grew up in Mexico in a family of tailors. From an early age, he displayed a keen interest in the craft and was the only one among his siblings who yearned to learn it. At 22 years old, Luis embarked on a journey to Los Angeles with his own young family, seeking better opportunities. He worked in the garment factories of downtown Los Angeles, striving to make ends meet while honing his skills. Over time, his expertise as a sample maker flourished, and he even ventured into creating spacesuits for astronauts, showcasing his remarkable craftsmanship.
Our Project
During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, fate brought Judy and Luis together at a small company in Los Angeles. As the only two individuals who persevered and kept the company running, they developed a deep connection and recognized each other’s extraordinary talents & dedication. Sharing their dreams and experiences, they formed a powerful partnership fueled by their shared vision: to transform the fashion industry, reduce waste, and champion the rights of garment workers.
In 2021, Pieced Together Couture was born as a testament to their shared passion and unwavering commitment. With Judy’s creative design expertise and Luis’s unparalleled craftsmanship as a master pattern maker and tailor, the brand seamlessly merges artistry and technical excellence.
